Here's how vacations work in The Sims 2: Bon Voyage: your Sims travel to a Vacation Destination, a new type of sub-neighborhood they visit to spend their vacation [\[1\]](https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/The%5FSims%5F2:%5FBon%5FVoyage?ref=idleweekend.net). The expansion came out on Sep 4, 2007 [\[2\]](https://www.ign.com/games/the-sims-2-bon-voyage/walkthroughs?ref=idleweekend.net). It is worth understanding how these trips work before you start planning one. For more detail, see [Age of Empires III Gold Edition Walkthrough](https://idleweekend.net/age-of-empires-iii-gold-edition-walkthrough/).

This guide keeps to the trips themselves: what happens on a vacation, and how to get the most out of each destination. It is a short, practical guide, not a full level-by-level walkthrough, so you get the key ideas without a wall of steps.

Each section below takes one part of the trip and explains it plainly, with examples you can try in your own game.

## What are the three vacation destination types?

The Sims 2: Bon Voyage gives you three Vacation Destination types: Far East, Tropical, and Mountain [\[1\]](https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/The%5FSims%5F2:%5FBon%5FVoyage?ref=idleweekend.net). Each one is a separate place where a Sim can spend a vacation, so the type you pick decides the setting of the whole trip. For the next step, see [Dai Senryaku VII Walkthrough](https://idleweekend.net/dai-senryaku-vii-walkthrough/).

Vacation Destinations are a new kind of sub-neighborhood. Your Sims travel to one of them to spend their vacation, and the destination type is what shapes the scenery they see [\[1\]](https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/The%5FSims%5F2:%5FBon%5FVoyage?ref=idleweekend.net).

### Far East

Far East is one of the three choices. Pick it when you want your Sim to spend the vacation in that setting.

### Tropical

Tropical is the second type. Choose it when you want a warm, beach-style break instead of the Far East setting.

### Mountain

Mountain is the third type. Choose it when you want your Sim to get away to higher ground and a quieter scene.

A simple way to start is to pick one type for your first trip and see how it suits your Sim. You can try a different type on your next vacation to compare them.

## How do you learn the local dances and gestures?

Your Sims learn local dances and gestures by watching the locals and joining in, so the lesson happens out in the crowd.

Sims move their hands and hips to the local music [\[3\]](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/939636-the-sims-2-bon-voyage/faqs/50221?ref=idleweekend.net). When you visit a destination with a local crowd, that rhythm is the first thing you'll notice. Listen for it before you try to copy anything.

Specifically, Sims will move their hands right and left twice while moving their hips to the music [\[3\]](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/939636-the-sims-2-bon-voyage/faqs/50221?ref=idleweekend.net). Watch that pattern closely, since it is the move you are trying to learn.

To learn one, wait for the locals to do a gesture, then join in [\[3\]](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/939636-the-sims-2-bon-voyage/faqs/50221?ref=idleweekend.net). For example, if a group is dancing beside the fountain, stand near them and let your Sim follow the beat. Once your Sim copies the move, the gesture is learned.

This is the main hands-on way to learn a local gesture. You don't need to trigger a special action or open a menu. Just watch the locals and join in when they start the move, and give it a few tries before you move on.

## Where can you find a full Bon Voyage walkthrough?

If you want a full walkthrough, start with StrategyWiki, which has a dedicated walkthrough page for The Sims 2: Bon Voyage [\[4\]](https://strategywiki.org/wiki/The%5FSims%5F2:%5FBon%5FVoyage/Walkthrough?ref=idleweekend.net). It is a wiki, so the page has a table of contents you can use to jump straight to the part you need [\[4\]](https://strategywiki.org/wiki/The%5FSims%5F2:%5FBon%5FVoyage/Walkthrough?ref=idleweekend.net).

PC players have more options. GameSpy lists walkthroughs and guides for the PC version of the game [\[5\]](http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/the-sims-2-bon-voyage/guide/?ref=idleweekend.net). GameFAQs also has a PC guide and walkthrough for the game [\[3\]](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/939636-the-sims-2-bon-voyage/faqs/50221?ref=idleweekend.net). Having two or three options helps when one guide skips a step you need, so you can compare how each one explains the same stage.

Plan your time before you start. That is one run through the story, so a walkthrough for the main story will not cover every trip you might want to try.

Use the guide as a reference rather than reading it straight through. Pick a stage, try it in the game, and come back only when you get stuck. A wiki page is easier to scan than a long text file, so search the table of contents for the stage name, then follow the link.

## Where should you start your first trip?

Start your first trip with a Tropical vacation. It is one of the three destination types, so you have one clear choice instead of comparing all of them. [\[1\]](https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/The%5FSims%5F2:%5FBon%5FVoyage?ref=idleweekend.net)

Once you arrive, watch the locals. Wait for them to do a gesture, then join in, and that is how your Sim learns it. [\[3\]](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/939636-the-sims-2-bon-voyage/faqs/50221?ref=idleweekend.net)

If the main story stops you, open a full walkthrough instead of guessing. StrategyWiki has a walkthrough page for the game. [\[4\]](https://strategywiki.org/wiki/The%5FSims%5F2:%5FBon%5FVoyage/Walkthrough?ref=idleweekend.net)

Keep one thing in mind: pick a single destination, learn from the locals, and use a walkthrough only when you need one. Then head out on your next trip with a clear plan.
